Giant Pandas are white and balck but there is another type of panda called the Red Panda which is red and white. There are usually black splotches around its eyes, over its ears, across its round body, on its muzzle, legs, arms, and shoulders. The rest of its fur is white. Their fur coloring is great for camoflauge and is very thick and wooly. The thick wooly coat keeps the panda warm in cold climates. They don't hibernate like other bears because they are unable to store fat. They do migrate to find other areas with lots of food. They are born alive so they are mammals and their babies are called cubs no matter which type of panda. They eat different things if they are in the wild than if they are in a zoo. In the wild their diets consist of 99% bamboo and the 1% is a balance of other grasses and occasionally small musk deer fawns. That means that they are omnivores in the wild. In our zoo they are herbivores and feed off of bamboo, sugar cane, vegetables, fruits, and many other foods. In the wild they protect themselves by either running or fighting with theor strength and/or jaws. Giant Pandas are greatly endangered becuase humans are destroying their habitats and some are killed in traps meant for other animals. An interesting fact about Giant Pandas is Pandas nly give birth to 1 to 2 cuba at a time. They only weigh 4 to 8 onces at birth, making it hard to survive in the wild.
