The Black Mamba is one of the top ten most poisonous snakes in the world. It's skin is usually an olive-gray with a blue-black color inside their mouth. Their body is covered with smooth scales and they're cold-blooded. They are found in the woody hills of savannahs and rocky hills of Eastern and Southern Africa. They protect themselves by opening their mouths, most animals flee, but if they don't the Black Mamba strikes. When they bite other animals their poison goes into the other animal and instantly kills it. The Black Mamba lays eggs and their young are called hatchlings. They feed off of other animals such as small rodents and other smaller animals, therefore they are carnivores. These sankes aren't endangered yet, but they're habitats are being destroyed by industrialization and humans. Did you know? That Black Mambas have the reputation of being the fastest moving snake on land. The Black Mamba is an amazng animal, but you need to see it to believe it, so come visit our Black Mamba exhibit in Reptile Ravine in Charleston Zoo.
